New Impulse Response audio files now available for convolution software.
A collection of unique impulses responses (provided as 24 Bit WAV files) based on our high quality stereo field recordings using our wide range of field recording techniques. They include unique reverb effects, delays, evolving ambiences, frequency filtered impulses and some with panning effects. The characteristics of these impulses are probably only achievable using convolution technology. The impulse responses were created and curated only by editing the original field recordings without applying any further effects other than EQ, frequency filter sweeps and panning. The Impulse Response Series covers impulse responses from a few seconds to long durations in excess of 60 seconds, with a high proportion being of 10 to 30 second duration. In addition to elevating and modifying the character of recorded instruments and other sounds, we have found they can be compositionally inspiring to play live, either during recording or performance. For example, a piano played through a single instance of a convolution reverb with one of the impulses responses loaded can influence your real-time interaction with the instrument. To support this any time based attributes in the impulse responses such as delays were time matched in seconds within a DAW project of 120BPM. This means for convolution software with an in-built 'time stretch' parameter 'playback' speed can be adjusted to your required tempo. The impulses responses can be loaded into any convolution software that will accept WAV files. The impulse responses can also be significantly modified within most convolution software using their available functions. The following Impulse Response Editions are available in Series One:-
Rain - 112 Impulse Responses created from field recordings of Rain under various conditions. The inherent random and granular nature of rain is captured in the IR's which can produce stunning effects when used in convolution reverbs.
Examples Below:
Wind - 116 Impulse Responses created from field recordings of Wind under various conditions. Impulses derived from wind recordings are excellent for convolution effects enabling instruments to be placed in impossible sounding spaces.
Examples Below:
Water Volume 1 - 89 Impulse Responses created from field recordings of Water under various conditions. The recordings made for Water Volumes 1 and 2 IR's include all three physical states:- solid (snow/ice), liquid Water and gaseous (steam). Volume 1 includes recordings of: the sea using microphones and underwater hydrophones, rivers, streams and ponds including underwater sounds of plants photosynthesising. Volume 1 also includes IR's from snowfall.
Examples Below:
Water Volume 2 - 76 Impulse Responses created from field recordings of Water being heated including: running water of a bathroom shower, water in a container warming up to boiling point and also from steam generation. Water being heated to boiling point was recorded underwater using hydrophones to capture bubble formation and cavitation and also during cooling. Steam under pressure from a steam cleaner was recorded in air using microphones.

Listen to some examples from the Impulse Response Series in the player below. All recordings were made with a single instance of convolution reverb loaded with an impulse response from the series. Note: the tracks numbered 'IR 000' are the original sound indent without any convolution effect, all others 'IR XXX' are the corresponding IR numbers available in the catalogue displayed. (The examples all used the commercially available 'Convology XT' convolution reverb plugin).
